Casa Loma Toronto Wedding Photography: Best Photo Locations & Planning Tips

If you're getting married at Casa Loma, you have one of the most incredible wedding photography backdrops in Toronto right outside your door. As a photographer, I honestly get excited every time I walk into Casa Loma — there are so many beautiful spaces, and each one gives your photographs a completely different feeling.

One of my favourite things about photographing weddings here is that you can create an entire gallery with so much variety without ever leaving the property.

Here are some of my favourite spots and how I like to use them.

The Great Hall — For the WOW Photos

Let's start with the obvious one!

The Great Hall is dramatic, grand and absolutely made for those "wow" wedding portraits. With its soaring 60-foot ceiling, beautiful architectural details and enormous windows, it gives your photographs that unmistakable Casa Loma feeling.

I love using the architecture to create portraits that feel elegant and editorial — especially when you have a long veil, a dramatic wedding dress or a gorgeous bouquet.

It's also a fantastic space for larger bridal-party and family photographs because there is room to create a strong composition without the background feeling cluttered.

The Conservatory — Light, Romance & Greenery

The Conservatory is one of my personal favourites.

The natural light, greenery, marble and incredible stained-glass ceiling create such a romantic atmosphere. Casa Loma describes it as being filled with natural light and surrounded by windows overlooking the gardens.

This is where I love creating softer portraits.

Instead of everything feeling grand and formal, the Conservatory allows for more intimate photographs — walking together, looking at each other, laughing, holding hands and those quiet little moments between the two of you.

And of course, that stained-glass ceiling makes for some beautiful detail shots and wider photographs.

The Library — Romantic & Intimate

The Library gives your wedding gallery an entirely different look.

The rich wood panelling, bookshelves and traditional details create a warm, sophisticated backdrop.

I love this room for portraits that feel a little more old-world and romantic.

It can also be a beautiful space for smaller family photographs or bridal-party portraits when you want something more intimate than the Great Hall.

Sir Henry's Study — For Something a Little Different

If we're looking for something unexpected, Sir Henry's Study is another fun space to incorporate.

The room has beautiful mahogany panelling and historic details, including the hidden doors beside the fireplace.

I wouldn't necessarily spend a huge portion of your portrait time here, but it's perfect for adding a few editorial, artistic images that feel completely different from the rest of your gallery.

And honestly, that's what I love about Casa Loma — there are so many little details that we can use to keep your photographs interesting.

The Staircases & Hallways

Don't underestimate the hallways and staircases!

Some of my favourite images can happen while we're simply moving from one location to another. The architecture, windows, railings and long corridors can create beautiful leading lines and opportunities for more candid photographs.

I'll often use these spaces for a quick portrait or a walking photograph rather than stopping and creating a traditional pose.

Those in-between moments can end up being some of the most beautiful images in your gallery.

The Terrace — Toronto in the Background

Then we can head outside.

The Terrace gives you a completely different perspective, with views over the gardens and toward the Toronto skyline. Casa Loma specifically highlights the Terrace as a photo backdrop because of its elevated city views.

I love this location for romantic couple portraits, especially when we can take a few minutes away from everyone and just let you enjoy being together.

It gives your gallery that beautiful "Toronto wedding" feeling without looking like a typical downtown Toronto photo.

The Gardens — A Softer, More Romantic Look

Casa Loma's five acres of grounds give us plenty of opportunities for outdoor photographs, including gardens, fountains, sculptures and seasonal flowers.

The gardens are perfect when you want photographs that feel a little less formal and more natural.

We can walk, talk, laugh and simply enjoy being together while I photograph what happens naturally.

Depending on the season, the gardens can also give your gallery completely different colours and textures.

The Glass Pavilion — Beautiful for Summer Weddings

For couples having a summer wedding, the Glass Pavilion is another space worth considering. Casa Loma describes it as a seasonal structure overlooking the heritage gardens, with views toward both the castle and city.

It can be especially beautiful for photographs when you want the architecture of Casa Loma, the gardens and the Toronto skyline all working together in one image.

My Biggest Tip: Don't Try to Photograph Everything

With so many beautiful locations, it's tempting to think we need to photograph in every room.

We don't!

I'd rather spend our time creating a smaller number of really beautiful photographs than rushing you from one room to another.

The key is choosing a few locations that give us variety — perhaps the Great Hall for the grand portraits, the Conservatory for soft romantic images, the Library for something intimate, and the Terrace or Gardens for outdoor photographs.

That gives you a gallery that feels varied and intentional without making your wedding day feel like a photoshoot.

Build Photography Time Into Your Wedding Timeline

This is one of the biggest things I recommend to my Casa Loma couples.

If your wedding photography is important to you, don't leave portraits until the very last minute.

Giving us some dedicated time means I can take advantage of the different spaces, work with the available light and create photographs that feel relaxed rather than rushed.

A first look can also be a great option if you want to get some portraits done before the ceremony. If you prefer to wait until after the ceremony, that's completely fine too — we'll create a timeline that works for you.

And don't worry — I'm not going to disappear with you for hours while your guests wonder where you are!

My goal is to photograph you beautifully while making sure you actually get to enjoy your wedding day.

The Best Part? You Don't Have to Know How to Pose

You don't need to be comfortable in front of a camera.

You don't need to know what to do with your hands.

And you definitely don't need to spend your wedding day worrying about whether you're "posing correctly."

That's my job.

I'll give you direction when you need it, but I'll also look for those natural moments — the way you look at each other, the laugh that happens between poses, the way your dad looks at you, your bridal party making you laugh, or the moment you stop and realize, "We're actually married!"

That's the part of wedding photography I love most.
